NW Harris County Regional Water Authority News

The NHCRWA held a public meeting on Tuesday June 29th seeking input from MUD Board Directors regarding proposed increases to the RWA monthly fee. The TNW MUD Board will keep you advised when any change goes into effect. To learn more, you can monitor the RWA’s website click here, attend, or Zoom into, their monthly board meetings held the 1st Monday of every month starting 6pm at the authorities office. The agenda is posted on their website.

Reclaim Irrigation News

The District’s reclaim irrigation system and remote monitoring continues to perform beyond expectations. For the month of June, the system saved the POA $1,163.79 and the MUD $6,196.58.

How does the system save the POA and MUD money? Pretty simple, reclaim irrigation water is exempt from the monthly RWA fee, that accounts for the majority of the savings. To encourage reclaim water use for irrigation, the RWA also gives our District a 1/2 RWA fee credit for the gallons used each month, that accounts for the remainder of the monthly savings. The District tracks our usage every month and calculates the savings to ensure we’re receiving the savings we’re entitled to. The District is achieving the expected return on investment.

As previously reported, The Palms Office Condos has been converted to reclaim water for irrigation. June was their first full month on the reclaim system.

The District’s plan to convert the Olde Oaks HOA irrigation system for the TCJ median south of Cypresswood to the bridge over Cypress Creek is temporarily on hold until a permit is secured from Harris County Engineering.

Converting these two accounts to reclaim saves them and the District money, and helps the RWA achieve Harris Galveston Subsidence District mandated treated water use reductions.

Park News, Greenspaces, & Reclaim Irrigation Update

The TNW POA Board received a June request to consider building a dog park in the POA park.  Be advised residents are welcome to use the MUD soccer field to run their dogs.  All the MUD Board asks is that you respect others using the soccer field, have control of your dog at all times, and clean up after your dog. You’ll find a Doggie Pot station as you enter the field. While we had more than our fair share of rain the last couple months, we now find ourselves in a Texas heat wave. Thanks to the District’s reclaim irrigation system, the greenspaces are being well irrigated.

The Blackberry row in the Terravista detention pond has been redesigned and replanted thanks to help from Atkinson Farms owner Mike Atkinson. Hopefully the plants will thrive and produce berries for the picking every year for years to come. The Terravista Detention Pond walking trail low spots have been filled in to eliminate standing water on the trail.

Is there something you’d like to see planted in the park or greenspaces? Send your idea by email to tnw.mud@gmail.com and we’ll consider it, after all, it is your park.

Harris County Flood Control News

Construction on the four new detention ponds south of Cypresswood and east of T C Jester is well under way. It’s a constant flow of dump trucks hauling dirt out right now and that will continue for the foreseeable future. A wide buffer ring of trees is being left in place around the new detention ponds. The addition of these detention ponds is good news for those Terranova West residents flooded out during Hurricane Harvey.
