Lady Bird Johnson and Our Girl Scout Elena are Most Disappointed This Morning!

Yesterday, a resident advised the Board the Terravista detention pond greenspace wildflowers had been mowed down. Unfortunately, it’s true and most disappointing after all the hard work that’s been done year on year to expand the wildflowers.

The District’s landscape crew failed to heed their mowing instructions. This morning the owner held a team meeting to reinforce the mowing instructions set by the District for detention pond mowing during wildflower season March through June.

Fortunately, it’s not all lost for the season. While we’ve most likely lost the Bluebonnets for this year, Mother Nature spreads the variety of blooms out over the spring and summer so we should still see a good crop of Crimson Clover, Indian Paintbrush, and many more.

A very successful wildflower seedball toss!

An enthusiastic group of residents and kids participated in Elena’s wildflower seedball toss event this morning at the District’s Terravista detention pond. Her project is guaranteed to add to the existing wildflowers.

The MUD Board thanks Elena for her project and all who attended.

Bluebonnets and other early blooming wildflowers are already popping up. If you haven’t walked the area, come out and walk the trail, enjoy the early wildflowers and, you may see some of the deer and other wildlife that frequent it. You’ll be glad you did.

March 2025 Monthly MUD Update

Reclaimed Water for Irrigation Project Update

The project contractor is waiting for Centerpoint Energy to install and connect 3 new electric meters. Once that is done, the project can be quickly wrapped up. The District’s reclaim irrigation consulting company will then program and test the system before the system is turned on. In the meantime, the District’s landscaper has been doing landscape work including mulching and rock work resetting. Tree and shrub replacements lost during the project, along with hydroseeding and sodding will have to wait until the system goes live.

Toadie, the project’s purple toad mascot, holds court in the park to help raise awareness of the project.

Questions about the project? Send an email to the address below or, better yet, attend a monthly MUD Board meeting and ask your questions to the Board.

Park & Greenspaces

The Terravista detention pond side walls have been over seeded with bluebonnet seed to enhance the spring wildflowers. Wild Texas sunflowers will be seeded in certain spots for an added splash of summer color and food for pollinators and deer.

The District’s Emergency Broadcast Messaging System

Stay informed! District broadcast messages are used to communicate events affecting the District’s water/sewer operation to residents in real time. The system is also used to communicate updates and information to residents.

If you are not receiving critical emergency and routine broadcast messages from the District, there are 4 things you can do to insure you receive them,

  1. Check your junk/spam mail folder, if you find them there, move them to your inbox.
  2. Verify your email address and mobile number on your water/sewer bill account at https://h2o.starnik.net.
  3. Add your email address and mobile number via the District’s website at https://www.tnwmud.org/email-and-text-message-alerts/.
  4. If you change your email address or mobile number, be sure to update them using items 2 and 3 above.

Adding alerts@tnwmud.org and +1 (682) 356-5083 to your email and mobile phone  contact lists insures you will receive District broadcast messages.

Note: In addition to an emergency broadcast message, the District’s Operator, H2o Innovation, would place in ground signs at key intersections for water quality issues such as a “Boil Water Notice”.

Water Plant News

Work continues on the replacement for the District’s aging control room along with other, much needed, structural and safety improvements.  This is a major upgrade to the water plant. Once complete, this work will greatly improve the performance of water plant operations and allow for remote monitoring by the District’s Operator, H2o Innovation.  Work is designed to insure there is no disruption to residential water service during construction which is expected to last into August, 2025.

Terravista Detention Pond Wildflower Improvement Project

Elena Prado, daughter of proud parents Mr & Mrs Prado in Terravista, presented her idea for a Girl Scout badge Education project to the MUD Board at last night’s board meeting. Her idea is to make “wildflower seed balls” and toss them on the the banks of the Terravista Detention Pond Greenspace this spring to enhance and add to the existing wildflowers. A simple genius idea by a young lady interested in contributing to the betterment of her community. Elena is a member of Girl Scout Troop 111105. The Board enthusiastically endorsed and supports Elena’s project and looks forward to the additional wildflowers. Several Boy Scouts have done MUD Park improvement projects for the Board over the years but Elena is the first young lady to do a project, the Board couldn’t be happier for her. Congratulations Elena and thanks!

If you haven’t walked the District park and detention ponds lately, take a walk on the wild side, you’ll be glad you did. A map detailing the locations can be found in the District’s website.
